Good Enough: Devotionals for a Life of Imperfection

First class is Tuesday, August 13

This is a book for when you want to stop feeling guilty that you’re not living your best life now.

Kate Bowler and co-author Jessica Richie offer 40ish short spiritual reflections on how we can make sense of life not as a pursuit of endless progress but as a chronic condition. Written gently and with humor, Good Enough is permission for all those who need to hear that there are some things you can fix—and some things you can’t. And it’s okay that life isn’t always better. Ultimately, in these pages we can rest in the encouragement to strive for what is possible today—while recognizing that though we are finite, the life in front of us can be beautiful.

Join us for this 8 week study group Tuesdays at 7pm, meeting in person at the church. This class will be led by Shannon Cobb. The class might be offered in a hybrid format if enough people ask to participate via Zoom. More information to follow soon, in the meantime please save the dates (we will meet 8 Tuesdays starting August 13, ending October 8 and not meeting September 3).

Pastor Michael's
Summer Reading List

This summer, I’d like to share some of the essays and articles I’ve enjoyed with you. They come from a variety of publications and perspectives, each offering something of interest from different perspectives.

All shared articles are available here.

This week, I have posted a link to After Political Violence, How Do We Love Our Enemies? from Sojourners Magazine. After a shocking assassination attempt during a contentious campaign season, this addresses several issues of importance as we seek to engage the world in a way consistent with our Christian faith.

Featured Community Outreach: Patti’s Closet

Patti’s Closet provides new and used clothing (at no charge) to low-income, at-risk families with small children.

This ministry address a lack of resources for the needs of infants and toddlers in our community. Clothing banks have mostly adult clothing, and since children outgrow their clothing very rapidly during the first two or three years, the need is great.

Patti’s Closet is unique to our community, as currently there are no clothing banks for infant and toddler clothing. Families should be able to have the basic baby necessities without having to forgo other necessities such as rent or utilities.

Patti’s Closet partners with other local churches and synagogues for donations and referrals for our community’s at-risk children.

Families are referred to us by Non-Profit agencies and Faith Communities who are already working with these families.
Patti’s Closet is strictly funded with donations from our church members and the local community.A referral from a social service agency or Faith Community is required for parents or custodial grandparents to access Patti’s Closet.
